The Dorothy Day Center is a food pantry that serves the greater metropolitan area of Oklahoma City.  We are part of the parish social ministry program at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Our ministry is run completely by volunteers.  We have no paid staff, therefore most of our budget is spent on direct aid, and a small amount is spent on equipment for operations.

We also have an organic, urban community garden that provides fresh fruit, nuts and vegetables for our food pantry or anyone else who would like to partake of the harvest.  The St. Charles Community Garden is part of a growing national trend to teach gardening to the urban community. Our gardening methods ensure the highest possible yield, with absolutely no damage to the environment.

We work hand in hand with The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma to provide food and supplies to the poor and marginalized of our community.  This relationship allows us to procure food and supplies at a cost of about 16 cents a pound.

We average approximately 350 deliveries of food to about 955 individuals a month.  Our food pantry is a delivery only food pantry. We deliver approximately 14,300 pounds of food a month. When people call or are referred to our ministry they are contacted by a volunteer who then sets up a time when they can deliver the food.
